How do I buy a train ticket in Australia?
Q. I need to catch a train, but I'm not sure exactly what I need to ask for at the window. There are different kinds of tickets and some stations don't sell them. I'll be travelling from Station A to Station B. Station A is unmanned, it has no ticket seller and no vending machine. Does that mean I just don't need to buy one for the first trip? And what do I ask for at Station B? Day ticket? What are the different kinds? Do I need to buy two tickets, since I didn't buy one for the first trip?

A. It depends on which state you are in, and what length of trip. In Victoria all stations have vending machines for the Metropolitan network. You can get V line tickets for country trains at premium stations, the main suburban ones which are manned all day. In a small country town with an un-manned station you can get on the train and buy a ticket from the conductor. Many V line services require you to reserve a seat in advance, so it is best to either get your ticket in advance, either at a station, or on the net. As far as other states go, it is probably similar.

What is the cost per ticket to a professional basketball team that offers 50 free tickets to an orphanage?
Q. What is the cost per ticket to a professional basketball team that offers 50 free tickets to an orphanage? Does it matter for what game the tickets are offered? Explain.
Asked by dolphinsbay - Fri Jun 5 15:42:29 2009 - Other - Politics & Government - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Ignoring the cost to print the tickets the Q goes to opportunity cost. So, was the game a likely sell-out? If the answer is no then the marginal revenue given up to offer "free" tickets is zero. If the tickets were reserved, the game sold out and the tickets could have been sold for $ 5,000 then the lost revenue is $5,000.

What happens with my ticket if I miss a Greyhound bus transfer?
Q. If I do happen to miss a transfer and have to take the next bus that makes different transfers not listed on my original ticket, what do I do? Do I need to get my trip re-ticketed or do they just accept the original ticket knowing that I'm still going to the same destination anyway? I would especially like hear feedback from people with experience or a Greyhound employee. Thanks for your help!

A. You need endorsement on your present ticket to travel again on the same ticket on the different bus and time plain, even if the destination is the same, there is always booking for the seats on bus in advance, without endorsement you will not get boarding right and a seat in the bus, so why be careless do the needful

How can I obtain an airline ticket receipt without losing money or flying?
Q. My contract stipulates that I can obtain a refund for a return ticket from where I am working to my country of origin. All I need is the airline ticket receipt (last page of the airline ticket). The date can be in the future or past, it doesn't matter. However, it must have my name on it. I don't want to fly to my country of origin right now but I want to take advantage of the refund. The place I work for insists on an airline ticket receipt. Is there any way to obtain it without flying or losing money? If I buy a ticket and refund it later I think I will lose money through some kind of cancellation charge. Will an airline office or ticket agents supply me with one? What train ticket should I ask for if I wish to return from my destination the day after?
Q. I'm unsure which ticket to buy. I'm planning to go to kidderminster on a saturday and return on the sunday afternoon. what sort of ticket should i ask for? It says on the planning website for national rail, that the cheapest ticket is an off peak return?
Asked by - Sat Oct 1 14:39:59 2011 - Other - Destinations - 1 Answers - Comments
A. Yes, an off-peak return is what you want - you have to do the outward journey on the date printed on the ticket, but the return journey can be any (off-peak) time within a month. All day is off-peak on Saturday and Sunday.

What happens if you get a ticket and the cop wrote the wrong court date on it?
Q. I did a stupid thing and used my friend's id to try to get a wristband for beer at beatstock in NJ. They wrote me out a ticket, but the cop wrote 7/28/09 on the ticket instead of 9/28/08 or whatever it was supposed to be. People have been saying that that makes the ticket invalid or something. Is this true or no?
Asked by shu1288 - Wed Aug 27 09:52:06 2008 - Law Enforcement & Police - 3 Answers - Comments
A. You can call the court, number is on back of your summons, and find out the new court date. Or if the cop is a good one he will get a magistrate summons and you will receive it at home or work. Either way it doesn't get rid of the fact that you committed crime, if you did. You need to give the judge that consideration and let him/her hear the case.

I have made a one way ticket reservation to india via kuwait airways. How can I make it a 2 way ticket?
Q. I wanted to return to US via europe. Now I have cancelled that plan and I want to convert this ticket to a two way ticket. My agent is refusing to do that. What can I do?I will lose a lot of money if I buy another one way return ticket.
Asked by joofri2006 - Mon May 12 16:15:02 2008 - Air Travel - 1 Answers - Comments
A. You haven't told us why your agent is refusing to do it -- it's possible that the agent's refusal has to do with fare rules that don't allow the ticket to be changed at all. If this is the case, then you're going to either have to buy another one-way ticket or lose the value of this ticket entirely and buy a new return ticket. Knowing why he's refusing to do it might help obtain a better answer.

How can I buy a ticket from a foreign airline without an address in their country?
Q. I can find cheap international tickets from airlines of other countries (Ethiopia Air, Air India), but to purchase the ticket online, I need an address in the departing country. Anyone know another way to get tickets from these companies?

A. Why not just call the airline? Most of those countries have ineffective online systems. I'm sure they'll sell tickets to an international traveller with a major credit card. Alternatively: Give your temporary hotel address.

How do I contest a speeding ticket in court?
Q. I got a speeding ticket today, which is really depressing because generally I try really hard not to speed. I want to contest it in court, and I read that the first step is to request the officer's presence. How do I do this? I also read that the best way to get your ticket dismissed is to request documents of proof from the officer, because most likely he will not have them. What documents are these? Any other tips to contest a speeding ticket? Thanks!!!

A. You should demand a jury trial and file a Motion for Discovery with the Clerk of Court ... the prosecution will probably not comply, and you will have to demand a court hearing and convince the judge, as for: 1) the officer's logs (audio, video, and written), 2) copies of the citation (front and back), 3) the names of any witnesses (ie: who is the police officer), 4) all information relating to the officer's training, who trained him, when, 5) all information relating to maintenance logs of the radar device, 6) the serial numbers of any tuning forks used, and when the device was tuned, 7) how frequently does the officer engage in speeding citations (if this is routine for him, you can argue at court that he probably doesn't follow all the… [cont.]

How many points does a careless driving ticket carry in New Jersey?
Q. I unfortunately got my 1st driving ticket the other day. I was doing 37 in a 25mph zone. The officer gave me a ticket but he said that instead of giving me a speeding ticket, he would give me a careless driving which is less $. He told me that I should go to court (not mandatory) & plead not guilty to get the points removed from my license. Does anyone know how many points this ticket carries and what the court costs will be? Any other additional info would also be helpful.

How much does the traffic ticket increase per week after it got sent to a collection agency?
Q. My cousin got a ticket in June; the court date was in July but he didn't go. Now the ticket is handled by the collector agent. The ticket was for failure to yield to pedestrians ( perhaps under $300) and his balance is $860 now. I wanted to know the break down of this price : how much is the penalty of missing the court and what's the monthly or weekly increment? What will be the increment if he starts paying for it now? Can I reuse a mega millions ticket if nobody wins the jackpot?
Q. Every once in a while when the jackpot is over $180 million, I buy a lottery ticket. I bought a ticket for yesterday's drawing, and nobody won the jackpot. In this case, are the numbers still good for the next drawing, or do you need to buy a new ticket for each one?

A. Right. Just look right on the ticket. It specifically says that 1 date. Some even specifically say "1 draw". If the tickets were continuously good, nobody would bother to buy another ticket, and the jackpot would never go up.

How do ticket conductors remember everybody who has shown a ticket?
Q. I gather this would require a decent memory and perhaps a few techniques. I imagine the ticket conductor would try and remember passengers through their actions (is the passenger reading or not?), by clothes and fashion (what colours stand out?) and so on? Are there any techniques at all involved? Fast Reg, I thought so. I always have noticed that when ticket conductors enter the carriage they say "tickets please" and everybody who got on looks.

A. They don't always remember. On long journeys there have been ocassions when I've been asked to produce my ticket more than once by the same conductor. However, I guess once you've been up and down the train a couple of times between stops you get a pretty good idea of who is sitting where. I don't believe there are any special techniques. In fact, what I have observed is that the passengers who have just boarded often identify themselves. The conductor will walk into the carriage and call "Tickets from ___ please", and all the people who got on at that stop will make eye contact with the conductor as he/she comes past and show their tickets.

What happens to Packer Championship ticket holders now that they lost?
Q. So we are season ticket holders for the GB Packers and were lucky enough to get tickets to the Playoff game and the potential Championship game. Since they lost to the Giants, what happens to the money I spent to get the tickets in the first place? Do the Packers credit the face amount of the tickets toward my fees for next years tickets?
