So the next day, we go sign up for one and its approved by the doctors with her arthritis and we now have a temporary handicap card. Will a campus parking ticket go on my permanent driving record?
Q. I received a parking ticket on a Michigan campus. I will pay the ticket since I don't have time to fight it (leaving for basic training in a week). My question is, will the ticket go on my police record like my other tickets?
Asked by me - Mon Apr 20 13:26:04 2009 - Law & Ethics - 5 Answers - Comments

A. Parking tickets do not carry points and do not go on anyone's driving record. They ascribe to the vehicle, not the driver, and are a liability of the owner of the vehicle since there is no way to show who drove it.

Can I receive a ticket for parking in a handicapped space in private property?
Q. I play basketball at my church and I park in the handicapped spot at night when no handicapped person would be using it. So can I get a parking ticket even though it's on private property?
Asked by jrsbridger - Thu Jul 2 20:57:19 2009 - Law Enforcement & Police - 12 Answers - Comments

A. depends... Generally, such places as a church are not policed and as such you can 'get away with it'. Since you said this was for playing sports, it is highly unlikely any person with disabilities would be seeking this spot. Handicap Parking is the only motor vehicle law which can be enforced on private property. All other motor vehicle laws are not enforcible on private land.

What should I do about a parking ticket with a court date?
Q. My wife got a $25 parking ticket, but it said we have to go to court and/or pay an extra $130 in court costs. This seems insane to me, I've never heard of going to court for a parking ticket! Anyway, what should I do? Is there any way to get the court cost waived and just pay the $25? Or should I show up in court and try to get the whole thing dropped?
Asked by - Mon Jun 7 19:25:58 2010 - Law Enforcement & Police - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Sounds like the $130 should apply only if you decide to go to court. Read it again and if you still have a question call the court.

Can you receive a parking ticket while your vehicle is in motion?
Q. A constable in the village of Belle Terre on Long Island, NY pulled me over to give me a parking ticket. I would have just paid the ticket except it's $75 for only being parked there 5 minutes. I'm just wondering if it is legal for a peace officer to pull you over while your vehicle is in motion to give you a parking ticket, which is a non-moving violation.
Asked by kristenh - Mon Mar 29 14:42:14 2010 - Law & Ethics - 2 Answers - Comments

A. I know where Belle Terre is, right up the hill from Port Jefferson. I grew up in Stony Brook so know Belle Terre well. That jerk wants to make money for Belle Terre. I would fight it because you were not parked when he pulled you over. There was a cop in Old Field who used to pull people over including me for false reasons. Can you meet with the Assistant District Attorney for Belle Terre and negotiate a plea? I am in Syracuse now and you can do that up here.

How to beat a parking in red zone ticket?
Q. I recently got a parking in the red zone parking ticket (and I was like 10 feet from a fire hydrant). I know, stupid, but I was in a rush to park and put my puppy into the house and I couldn't find parking anywhere on the street. I was going to go back to move the car asap but I forgot and came back out 10 minutes later to a 100$ parking ticket. Is there anyway to fight this or should I just suck it up and pay for it? Thanks a lot :)

A. Unfortunately, parking tickets are already very difficult to challenge. You need ironclad evidence to get them overturned. They are a big revenue source, so they're designed to be that way. Some cities are almost blatantly obvious about it. Philadelphia, anyone? They are part of life though. Its the cost of doing business. You can spin your wheels trying to get a highly improbable outcome or you can just pay the $100 and make sure you don't ever have to pay it again. Here is a life tip: One thing I've heard from parking enforcement officers--if you park illegally and leave your flashers on, that's just grabbing their attention and actually makes it more likely you'll get a ticket. Not saying you had yours on but a lot of people do this… [cont.]

What happens after you pay a parking ticket? Do they send you a letter or confirmation?
Q. I got a parking ticket today in Babylon village for parking close to a fire hydrant, for $75. My question is once I pay it, is everything ok? Do they contact you or anything? I dont want my parents to know.

A. Go pay the ticket as soon as possilbe. They will not do anything after you pay the fine. No letter. But if you do not pay the fine/ticket, a letter will be sent to your home. So pay it soon , as all they want is the money for your fine. Once it is paid, it is dead, but hang onto the reciept. Make sure you get a reciept. Many times, they will try to collect it twice and with a reciept, you have proof you've paid it. Don't loose the Reciept.

A. the number of the machine you bought it from will be printed on it and so they'll know if you bought it from the machine in that area, unless you have a list of numbers to forge for where you might find a space!

How do you pay for a parking ticket?
Q. Do you just go in and say hey I have to pay this parking ticket? I'm 16 and got a $10 parking ticket and I don't want my mom to find out. Would there be a way for her to find out? Will it spike my dads insurance?

A. Yup, bring your ticket to your local courthouse (of the agency that issued the ticket, city, county, whatever) and tell them you want to pay and give them the cash. I don't think parking tickets usually affect insurance rates - the insurance company is more concerned about when your car is moving.

Can I fight a parking ticket when the no parking sign was covered up my stickers?
Q. I parked there and never got a ticket but but then, 3 days later my friend parked there and got a ticket. If there is a sign saying "No Parking", it is completely covered up by stickers.

A. Give it a shot. If the sign was covered, you can't be expected to have seen it. As the previous answer suggested, take some pictures.

A. It's illegal to sell a ticket for more than it costs. That's called scalloping. But did you know you can sell a parking pass for as much as you can get for it and give away free tickets to the game with the parking pass.

A. They have your information and will most likely sell the bill to a collection company. It may also be reported on your credit report! You most likely will also be blacklisted by Enterprise, and will never be able to rent from them again. Pay the ticket, you owe the money!!

Do I have to pay a parking ticket from a private parking company?
Q. I received a parking ticket from a private parking company in London, Ontario for $40! There were no visable signs indicating that this was a pay lot in the area where I parked. What are my options? Can I fight it?

A. Hey Scota ;) Your question has been the subject of many current affairs stories here in Australia. We do NOT have to pay fines from private parking companies. If in doubt, give your local council or nearest police station a call. They will answer your question easily and quickly. Good luck! I wish you well.

what are my chances of successfully contesting a parking ticket in SF?
Q. We were parked at a meter, IN the car, and it was pouring rain. The parking lady drove by us with lights flashing, and did not stop. We were dutifully putting money in the meter so that it never expired. We were never handed an initial ticket, but received a citation by mail later. Unfortunately, there is no photo evidence, but three people were sitting IN the car with the meter running when the parking&transportation vehicle passed us by. Do I have any chance whatsoever of successfully contesting this ticket?
